Meet Little Sister Kaydence and Big Sister Heather

The last few months have left many of us feeling scared, worried, and anxious. There is no question that our collective experiences have taken a toll on everyone, youth especially. Amidst moments of uncertainty, there are also many moments of inspiration and hope.

After May’s first-ever virtual match, we are connecting even more Littles with their new Bigs virtually.

Just last month, Little Sister Kaydence and her mom, Angel, were introduced to Big Sister Heather. Their Match Support Specialist facilitated the Match Meeting via video conference.

Kaydence will start 7th grade this fall and is very kind. She enjoys dancing, swimming, cheerleading, and is involved in volleyball. She also likes doing hair and nails, and fashion.

As part of Big Brothers Big Sisters’ intentional matching process, our Enrollment team looked at the interests and personalities of both Kaydence and Heather before pairing them. Being sure Bigs and Littles have things in common helps build the foundation for their friendships.

Like Kaydence, Heather is fun, kind, and easy going. She also likes to swim, be active, and rollerblade.

Big Brothers Big Sisters asks each of its matches to define 3 goals for their first year being paired. Kaydence and Heather’s goals are:

  1. Learn how to cook/bake
  2. Become organized
  3. Be open with each other

Kaydence is a self-described jokester and her Big Sister Heather loves to laugh, so we can’t wait to hear about the fun they have together.

Even though social distancing is necessary during this pandemic, adults can still begin or maintain a mentoring relationship with a mentee.

Now more than ever, it is critical to keep children connected with caring adults who share their skills and help ignite their Littles’ potential.
